Household-type and earner breakdowns below are national. The sources do not support a canton × family size × number of earners filter.
These are separate comparable indicators, not a calculated leftover budget. Different years, populations and definitions mean rent must not be subtracted from tax-income medians to estimate savings.
ESTV federal-tax statistics, including units with and without federal tax liability. Tax units are not people or actual households: married partners are assessed together, unmarried partners separately. Standard and special cases are included; people taxed only at source are excluded. This is taxable income after fiscal deductions, before income tax, not disposable income or a salary.
The ESTV adjustment uses 1 for a single adult, 1.5 for married partners, plus 0.3 for each child or other supported person. It helps compare family sizes; it is not money paid to each person and does not separate one- and two-earner couples.
FSO Structural Survey: occupied rental and cooperative dwellings, including existing leases. Net rent excludes heating and ancillary charges; it is not an asking rent or the HABE housing-and-energy total. Same room count does not make dwellings identical in area, condition or location.
Fewer than 50 observations: interpret with great caution.
HABE publishes this detailed canton budget for eight cantons only: ZH, BE, LU, SG, AG, TI, VD and GE. Other cantons remain unavailable; the national average is not inserted as a canton value.
These pooled historical household averages come from a separate survey. Household composition differs between cantons.
Saving = disposable income − consumption − other insurance, fees and transfers + irregular income.
Housing and energy are included in consumption above. Do not subtract them again.
Employed members = the source means for employed and self-employed people added together. This is a group average, not a count of working partners or full-time jobs, and does not classify a household as one- or two-earner.
The source assigns precision classes: a <1%, b 1–<2%, c 2–<5%, d 5–<10%, e ≥10% coefficient of variation. This is not a confidence interval. An absent class remains unknown.
