About this data

Where does it fit in the household budget?

Start with disposable income, subtract consumption and other insurance, fees and transfers, then add irregular income. Housing is already inside consumption; taxes and compulsory premiums have already been deducted.

Housing and energy are included in consumption above. Do not subtract them again.

Amounts are displayed rounded. Calculations and downloads use the source precision.

How has this amount changed?

Nominal household averages, not adjusted for inflation. Gaps mark survey method changes in 2015 and 2022; changes are not automatically statistically significant.

Understand the measure

Where does it fit in the household budget?

Start with disposable income, subtract consumption and other insurance, fees and transfers, then add irregular income. Housing is already inside consumption; taxes and compulsory premiums have already been deducted.

What does this measure cover?

The HABE saving balance is income left after the recorded expenses, including irregular receipts. It is not a bank-account balance, a wealth stock or a median. Some households spend more than they receive.

Does the average describe my household?

No. It averages different household sizes, incomes and living arrangements. It is neither a median nor a figure per person. A positive average saving does not mean every household can save.
