Understand the measure

Where does it fit in the household budget?

Taxes belong to compulsory deductions before disposable income, alongside social contributions, basic health premiums and transfers to other households. They are already removed from the disposable amount.

What does this measure cover?

This is the national HABE tax expense category for whole households. It is not a statutory tax rate, a tax calculator or a cantonal comparison; it cannot predict a particular household’s tax bill.

Does the average describe my household?

No. It averages different household sizes, incomes and living arrangements. It is neither a median nor a figure per person. A positive average saving does not mean every household can save.
